On the importance of climate action and advocacy

U.S. Department of Defense

“To keep the nation secure, we must tackle the existential threat of climate change. The unprecedented scale of wildfires, floods, droughts, typhoons, and other extreme weather events of recent months and years have damaged our installations and bases, constrained force readiness and operations, and contributed to instability around the world.Climate change touches most of what this Department does, and this threat will continue to have worsening implications for U.S.national security.” View original document

Help support the Climate Smart Community initiative!

The Climate Smart Community program, developed by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York Energy Research and Development Agency, provides guidance and incentives for communities to improve sustainability, reduce GHG emissions, and reduce costs.

It is critical that we show up to support the initiative, as some members of our community object to its adoption. They have expressed concerns about loss of local control, which are based on a general distrust of government, not anything specific to the CSC. If theirs is the only voice, the Board will not take the recommended actions.

Please review Climate Smart Community Actions and be ready to explain why you feel this is the right step for Webster to take.
